Some maps either add or take away small islands to make sure that if their maps are stolen they will know if it is theirs.

well let say like this for an example Mexico starts war whit US and wins it then it claims 50% of US territory and UN guys do agree now that Mexico has legal claim over that land and it's now a part on Mexico and it will say so in in every updated map , while US does not recognize that the 50% of territory belongs to Mexico now and starts drawing it's own maps and saying to every one that they still do have legal claim over that land while the don't
