Hey, i recently had the urge to open a server..but everytime i try to forward my ports it doesnt really work..am i doing something wrong?

i am using windows vista, off a toshiba laptop,(im using wireless) with a modem/router from actiontec.

here is what i do... i go into applications









Then i go to the area to make an application and then i add the ports









Then i click ok, then i add them,,then i click apply..any ideas whats wrong because it seems like it still is not working

Use this site, its what I started using when I ran servers. Theres also a (paid) tool that will do it automatically for you. Get the name from the site and im sure you can find a free version.

lol i forwarded a port on my router so that i could host games.... it's gonna take a really long time to do

you should really look into what exactly portforwarding is and how it works before you start screwing with stuff, seriously

once you understand it, it's actually pretty simple

i know how to open the ports it just when i hit apply it will say i did...but when i go to host it dont work..i did the dyn dns thing with wildcard... went into that one file on your computer about hosts...still didnt work

did you set up a static IP address?
i'm not sure what kind of router you're working with, but i can prolly help you out if you send me a message on AIM or something

yea i got the prot forwarder program. thanks for the site man it works perfectly
