[Guide] Welcome to MMOwned - 06-26-2008

If you’re reading this, it means you are probably new to MMOwned. So first things first, welcome to our community. This post is designed to help you get use to the way we run things, and to help you in any areas you may be unsure about.

So, what’s first? You’ve registered to MMOwned, and are unsure what to do next. First, I suggest you create your profile. To do this, you’ll want to go to your User CP.

Once you’re here, you can edit your Details, Profile Picture, Avatar, and Signature.

Now that you’ve done that, what else do you do? Well, before you post, I suggest you read the forum rules, which can be found here: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

Since you now know the rules, I would take a look at our unique rating system, know as Rep/Karma. Rep or Karma is our way of determining who the active contributors are on the site. Rep is given by members, to other members who contribute. If you post something helpful, odds are you will be rewarded with Rep. A post about rep has been made here: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

When you post, your rep, and rep power are shown at the top right of your post.

Rep is how much reputation other players have given you, while Rep Power is how many rep points you give out when you give to someone else.
Once you have read the rules, and understand the ranks I suggest you familiarize yourself with our forums, and their sections. Take a look at each forum name and description before posting anywhere.
There are several forums which you may not be allowed to post in. Better to read first, then post and get in trouble. Pay particular attention to forums marked with [NO QUESTIONS HERE]

As stated, you can’t ask questions in those forums. We aren’t discouraging you from asking questions, but please post them in the correct places. There are forums marked with [Questions Belong Here] tags.

After all that, take a look at who runs the forums. We have several members on our staff. Admins, Super Mods, and Mods. All of which help run the forums. Take a look and learn their names, and who runs what forums. There is a page dedicated to that here: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

The forums each have individual Mods, and you can see each forums Mods when looking at the forum Index.

Now, finally, you can post! Once you are ready to make a post, you go to the forum for that topic, and click on the new thread link, located at the top left. Once you are here, it is pretty self explanatory. Our forums, by default check to make sure there are no double posts. After you type in the title, a search will be done of all the forum, and any similar posts will come up. Before you make a new post, look through these, and make sure no one else has posted what you are about to post.

After you have posted, you may have noticed some typo’s, or that someone did in fact post the same thing. You can edit or delete your post by going to the bottom of your post, and hitting the edit botton.

Here you can edit your post, or continue on to delete it.

Reporting bad posts is something we encourage members of the community to do. Its not hard, and no one will know you reported them. To report a bad post, simply click on the report link.

And last but not least, private messages. To talk individually to a member, instead of posting a thread and hoping he can see it, you can PM him/her by clicking on his/her name, and selecting to Private Message them. This works the same as PMs on any other forum.

Thanks for taking the time to learn about our site and how we work. Hope you enjoy our community.

Vote for MMOwned everyday at these two sites!

And if you're like me, you get these special little things called infractions:

Nice thread by the way, probably will help many people.

Setting an example is not the main means of influencing another, it is the only means.

See, now theres a difference between "Expired" and "Reversed"....Reversed would mean that a moderator made a mistake in issueing the infraction and or re-thought the infraction was too severe for the crime...

Expired means that the infraction was WELL deserved...Depending on how bad the infraction is, it while expire in due time...
