The gameplay is based on fully interactive physics - each character's different abilities and tactics can be used to invent new ways to overcome obstacles and save the kingdom!"
A friend showed this to me last night. I've been enjoying it since. Trine is an awesome game developed by the Finnish company Frozenbyte.
The game feature some awesome, magical graphics, but what stands out the most is the gameplay. You need to cooperate (coop-option available only on the same computer so far, though. Patch is coming within a few weeks which will allow users to play cooperative) and use the three characters to perfection to overcome any troubles you may have. Characters
At the start you have 3 characters - knight, thief and a wizard. You select either one of them by pressing the 1, 2, 3 buttons (default). The wizard is a weak caster, he can summon objects by drawing them in the air and then levitating other objects or the ones he made himself. This and other attacks with either one of the characters costs energy. The wizard can summon a box to fall down upon enemies and crush them!
Energy and health are easily recharged by either picking up potions or by reaching a checkpoint. There are quite many checkpoints so dieing shouldn't be too much of a problem.
The thief attacks using a bow. She is very flexible and can use her grappling hook to shoot and throw herself towards a wooden surface. Then use the hook to shove herself upwards to get over high walls, for example.
Last of the characters is the knight - big, clumsy, strong and slow. He can use a sword and shield to destroy his enemies, but also pick up, throw an object towards and enemy to kill it or to move an object. Gameplay
The main point of the game is, of course, to finish the levels. But not only that but to find secret areas, discover chests and most importantly - pick up experience points. You earn experience by either killing an enemy or picking up a bottle. Each bottle and enemy earns you one experience points. (except for bosses which earns you more..) Once you've gotten 50 points you reach the next level. By then you should know the basics of your characters and should then consider spending your first few points on talents. Each of the characters earn 1 talent point per level and some talents, most often upgrades to a previous talents, require two or even three talent points. This means that some levels you won't be able to improve anything but some you may be able to upgrade everything.
As I've said there are a lot of secret areas and a lot, and I mean a LOT, for you to discover. There are between 10-40 experience points per level for you to find and most often also two secret chests. These chests contain items which improves your stats such as health or energy. There are a broad variety of items and your characters will be pretty awesome in the end
Next are some screenshots.
It's available for purchase at Steam.
