Spiderman Web of Shadows is an action based game launched in October 2008 , after nearly 1 year since the previous Spiderman game.The game’s publisher is Activision and the game was developed by Shaba Games.The newest game in the series once again puts you in the role of the well-known superhero Spiderman that's on a mission to save the city once again.The game shows potential as it promises freeplay throughout the city of New York along with a dangerous combo arsenal , upgrades menu and boss fights.But , does it live up to this expectations or it's just bollocks ? We will find out in the following review!

The story of the game does not impress in any way as it's the classical good vs. evil fight , it starts with the return of Venom that plans to conquer the city transforming the innocent citizens into symbiots.If you are a Marvel fan you will be pleased to know that you will be meeting some well known characters here from the Black Cat , Wolverine to Moon Knight and Vulture.The villans are here aswell , characters like Rhino or Electro are on duty too.An interesting catch in Activision's game is that you can decide what path you can take after completing a stage , you can choose between being the good-guy or the bad-guy.The decisions are , however , moral only and does not affect you're gameplay as much as it could.Once you defeat in a confrontation these Marvel heroes and villans can come aid you in battle at certain moments.

Now that we're done with the story let's talk serious things like the gameplay.In the first few hours I was amazed by the fact that I could web zip so easy, climbing on skyscrapers and I had ALL New York to my disposition.The fact that New York has people and cars that move it's pretty awesome as well it gives you a living sensation.You can freely web zip throughout New York while exercising some neat and fluent acrobatic moves that provide a real show.A very interesting feature was that you could swap you're costume at ANY time by pressing a single key morphing suddenly from spiderman to symbiot spiderman.It gets even better , each of them has different attacks and combos , so imagine the combos you can do while changing the suite in combat.We also have an upgrade menu in which you can choose from an array of different abilities that will improve you're attacks or even get new ones.This game also features freeplay in New York where when not following the main quest line you can solve minor gang fights , robot attacks and so on keeping you for a few extra hours in front of the computer and offering great entertainment.Just as a side note , the black spiderman can lift cars with civilians and throw them around.To progress to the next stage you need to do some minor missions from a certain guy untill you can accept the final mission that will get you further in the story.The final mission is a boss fight , each boss fight it's different and they're all pretty awesome and well done and represent somewhat of a challenge to the game.

However , as much as I'd like to say this is an excellent game , it's not.It has it's own downs and one of them consists of the tendency of repetition and monotony appears after completing the first stages and lowers the game's quality in lack of new additions to the gameplay.This happens because most missions preceding the boss fights tend to get really repetitive because they all resume to killing an "x" number of enemies.Another annoying impediment is represented by the graphics.During night New York looks nice but during the day if you're high up on some skyscraper and look to the city as a whole..it doesn't look too good.There's not much to be said about the game's audio , the voice acting is decent and sound effects and music fit in pretty well.

Alternative : Spiderman 3 , similar from many point of views great action packed game especially if you have an Xbox or a Playstation.
