[Guide] Free ventrilo server

Hi all
I use to work on a server developing there hosting website before blizzard closed it down
and found a guie i made on my comp on the 17/09/08 and thought i should share it with u since i no longer develop web sites


REQUIREMENTS
A DynDNS:
Code:

http://www.dyndns.com/

Able To Host The Vent Server Your Self
If You Have A Router Know How To Work It
And Have Ventrillo Latest Version


Step A
Go To Ventrilo -
Code:

http://www.ventrilo.com/

Then To The Downloads Section
And Where It Says VentServer

Choose The Download Correct To Your Operating System


Step B
Now In Your Start Menu..

Go Into All Programs / Applications
There Will Be A New File In The Menu

VentServ

And There Will Be A Config File In Their...

The Config File Is Very Self Foward...

You Need To Edit The Config File A Little Bit:
Down The Bottom Of The Config Write This:

[intf]

# Example:
#
# Intf=External Domain, Eg: 192.168.1.1
# Intf=external.mydomain.com
# Intf=internal.mydomain.com
# Intf=127.0.0.1

When You Want To Start The Ventrilo Server Just
Start The Batch File
RunServer.bat

Step C

Go To DynDNS:
Code:

http://www.dyndns.com/

And Log Into Your Account .
Or Create A New One

Click Services
Then Manage Hosts
Then Add New Host

The Dyndns Name Whatever You Want

Where It Says Enter Your IP Just Press The Writing Below The Box

Saying: Your Current IP Address Is xxxxxxxxxx
e.g Your Current IP Address Is 127.0.0.1

Then Click Save.

Step D

Go To Your Router
And Go To Port Forwarding If You Need Help Go To:
Code:

http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/routerindex.htm

- Free Help Setting up Your Router or Firewall

And Port Foward This Port: To Both TCP And UDP

Name: VentServer 1
And
VentServer 2

Port: 3784

Step E
Connecting People To The Vent Server

Hostname or IP: The Dydns You Made At DynDNS: DNS Hosting, Email Delivery and Other Services
Port: 3784
Password: Default Is No Password Unless You Change It In The Configs

How Do You Connect To Your Own Server

Hostname or IP: 127.0.0.1
Port: 3784
Password: Same As Before

Now ur done ppl can onnect

On the server i use to develop on our vent we created held bout 25-40 ppl at a time =-)
I am not naming the server i use to work on but i already told the owner of the old server i was going to relase his and my guide!!

nice guide. But you do know if you host a ventrilo server your self you can only hold 8 connections on that server

i used this last on our server on the 13/7/08 and i use to hold 50 people free so i dunno

i suggest using teamspeak instead, cause it gives you access to 100 slots per server. Ventrilo only allows 8 slots.
