AFAIK Scape was last using Aspire Hearthstone, which all of us know uses DBCs. Not to insult him, but I don't think their dev has the ability to run the server without DBCs or maps. Even if she does get away with this, everyone will know that she told another lie to do so.

All servers today use DBCs/maps. there's proof of using maps if sections of the world map become uncovered as you explore.

2. I wonder if the fact that she evaded the DMCA sent to WoWscape will have any effect on this.

DBC's contain so much information, that it is practically impossible to run any emulator without them.

I agree with Hellgawd, it may look funny now but wait until the server YOU spent like $150 on it goes and and crashes because of Blizzard's lawsuit.

i don't think it's necessarily "the end" for all other servers. to me, it just looks like their targeting one of the most profitable and well known servers out there. they may target a couple other big ones but it would be essentially pointless as the players would just migrate to other servers. and targeting every server over, say 1000+ players, would be pointless and a waste.

if they really wanted to end the free servers once and for all they'd target the emulators themselves. now, i know the first response would probably something like "but the emulators have done no wrong doing, its a learning project. my emu is protected by the law, blame the server owners. blah blah blah" but consider how they tackled Napster. technically Napster did no wrong in allowing people to share files among others. WHICH files where shared was totally the person doing the sharing's decision. but to go after each person sharing files would be an endless witch hunt.

so, i'd say unless you see them actually try to take down an emulator itself, i wouldn't worry too terribly unless your pulling in way more money than is needed. scape gaming just got too big and too profitable for blizzard to ignore.

Emulation projects don't. They don't host servers, they don't provide DBCs or maps, and they don't provide a database.
