It has become more and more apparent that Wotlk currently holds king for stupid private servers.
All the top private servers (according to xtremetop100.com) are all the exact same. "Fun Realms". Now dont get me wrong, fun servers can be fun, but when most servers even advertise "Blizzlike server/rates" and you go on and its instant 80 free TierX, its like wtf, this isnt blizzard like.
To make matters worse most have the exact same stuff, same vendors/teleporters/items. What is going on with the Emulation world. |

Also all of the top servers of the xtremetop100 use bots / bribe there way in. |

Becouse that way you can mask the fact that you have 50% of stuff not working. |

Reputation: 4 Level up: 27%, 366 Points needed | | | | I see rather a bigger problem that people get more and more manipulated by top100 servers, especially from the big ones. Often the community see such servers as "the best" cause they are such high in the ranking.
What they dont see is the following:
- Top rated server are often pure money making machines, they aim for profit
and dont support the wow community with ideals like it was some years ago.
- They aim to hold maximum of players online, that also is the reason why
you see almost the same emulations on such servers i.e. ascent..aspire
- They offer more and more Fun Servers, not only because people are always lazy.
No - they offer that cause they can get a lot more and faster donations for items.
- The ranking on such servers is often manipulated, on some servers you can vote
every some hours on other you can vote every some minutes and other totally
manipulate their rankings with forced votings i.e. starting items, better items...
- The development of new emulations are also slowed down, since the big servers
rely only on emulations which perform well but dont care less about functionality.
Thats why you see almost no new emulations or advanced ones on top ranked
ones.
I think the private server szene did change a lot in comparison to some years ago, it changed to a pure business idea to make money in form of donations if we take a lot of the top ranked servers. Those donations on such big servers are not going totally into the project...its a profit for their own living and some did succeed really well with it.
Yes, there are other servers out there aswell which are not top ranked, better in quality and even without donation items, but... the masses are blind and so easy manipulateable with the top100 system. Its like in real life....we get manipulated every day.

In response to Duddle, I completely agree. Private servers should not be used as a business method, and last time I checked "donating" was different than buying.
