Ascent 2.3.x Server w/ Mafiaboys Repack

First of all Hi
This is my first guide and its rather simple. I hope it can help u set up a new Ascent server

Notice!!!
I have changed a small but important part at #3 -> ascent.conf. Changes marked in RED and easy to see!


1. Downloads
WinRAR - [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
Mafiaboy's Repack - [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] (not mine, full credit to Mafiaboy)
MySQL 5.0.45 - [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
Navicat 8 - [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

2. Installation
A) Save the Repack to the Desktop or whereever you like it. Open it and go to the Folder Ad.exe. Look for the file in wich u installed your WoW (deDE=German, enUS= English etc.). Copy this file into your WoW directory where your WoW.exe and Launcher.exe also are. Then make a new Folder called "maps" w/o the "". Execute the ad file (this may take a while). When finished, drag the maps folder into your Repack folder ( \Mafiaboy's Repack\maps ) .

B) Open the MySQL installation file. Click Next. Select Typical and click Next.


Press Install and finish up the installation. At the end leave Configure now selected and press Finish.


Hit Next, select "Standard Configuration" and go on.


Type in "root" as a Service Name and hit Next.


Type in a password that you can remeber hit Next and Execute.

C) Open Navicat, hit Next several times, then install. Open Navicat. Go to File->New Conenction. Use anything what you like as a Connection Name, "root" as the user and the password you entered at mysql at the password field.


Right Click on your connection and hit New Database. Call this DB "ascent" (w/o "" ofc).

Make another DB called "ascentlogon" (once again w/o "" ^^) .
Now Double and then Rightclick on ascent and select Execute Batch File...


Go to your Repack Folder then to DATABASES and select ascent9. Hit Start. This may take a while.


When finished Execute a Batch file for ascentlogon. This time use the file character wich is located in the same directory as ascent9. When finished enter the ascentlogon DB and double click accounts on the right hand side.



In the following Table enter your desired Logon name and Logon password. If u wish to be a gm type in "az" (w/o "") in the gm part. At flags type in an "8" (w/o "").


3. Conf Files
Go to your Repack folder and open realms.conf with the basic Editor. Locate this

<Realm1 Name = "wowmafia.org"
        Address = "127.0.0.1:8129"
        Icon = "PVP"
        Colour = "1"
        Population = "1.0"
        TimeZone = "1">

Change the Blue part to your Desires.
Save and Close.
Then open Logonserver.conf and find

<LogonDatabase Hostname = "localhost"
               Username = "root"
               Password = "ascent"
               Name     = "ascentlogon"
               Port     = "3306"
               Type     = "1">

Change the Blue marked Password to the one you entered in MySQL.
Save and Close.
Open Ascent.conf now. Find

<WorldDatabase Hostname = "localhost" Username = "root" Password = "ascent" Name = "ascent" Port = "3306" Type = "1">
<CharacterDatabase Hostname = "localhost" Username = "root" Password = "ascent" Name = "ascentlogon" Port = "3306" Type = "1">

Change the Blue marked Password areas to the password you entered in MySQL. Change the red marked "localhost" to "127.0.0.1" .
Save and Close.
Et voilá.

4. Playing
Start Logonserver.exe and w8 until it says Hooking Signals. Open Ascent.exe. Now go to your WoW Directory and open realmlist.wtf with your Editor. Change it to

set realmlist 127.0.0.1
set patchlist 127.0.0.1

allthough the patchlist isn't important.
Now start WoW and logon with your Account data you previously made.

I hope ur private server is working now, if not feel free to ask.

I'm having one problem though and it has nothing to do with the repack its my error but i don't know how to fix it. Basically i can make the character, log into the character, and play the character. Only problem is the starting clothes are not there and any items you add to the characters inventory will be gone after you re-log. But on the character screen (screen where you select the character you want to play) what ever gear you added to him shows up. So another words it is there but i just can not see it which leads me to believe there is some type of error with some type of file. If anyone has experienced this problem before or knows how to fix it, a solution would be nice lol. Thanks

I read through this guide and think its really great, easy to follow, and (hopefully) works through to the end. I had a question that I hoped someone could answer though-my navicat doesnt seem to respond. I already had a connection for my old server, and it worked fine until patch 2.3. Then it starting occasionally fail to connect, and now when I tried to create a new connection or connect with my old one, it says this after a short pause- 2003-Can't Connect to MySQL Server 'localhost' (10061) I have no idea what this means, any help would be great thx.

I was using the Map extractor and it is stopping at the Netherstorm maps and i cant seem to get past that. And i doubt its the fact that i am patched to 2.3

just hit trial version
and u can also use different progs for example sqlog

Hey man great guide I was just wondering though how do I customize my server (making a mall and portals to it), and/or how to remove the custom vendors and portals already there.

Where I need to change the Wowmafia.org to something else, what do I change it to? My own ip?
Or is there some site I could host this at?

And about realmlist.. What is that ip there? Do I need to change that to my own ip too? Or to the addres of the site I host it at if it is possible to host it somewhere else..

the wowmafia.org is the name of the realm it occurs where u select on wich realm you play so name this however you want

the ip 127.0.0.1 is localhost so your computer
to make your server public i added a link on the bottom

i repaired all my WoW files in the directory uninstalled/reinstalled mySQL have replaced many databases with many revs. nothing seems to work

When I check the box with "configure mySQL now", and I press finish, it doesn't do anything at all! Can anyone help me with that please?
